Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Reseda Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

We provide independent DuraFlex repair in Reseda, including chimney cleaning, inspection, and service for homeowners across the area. If you’ve got a DuraFlex liner in your fireplace flue, we know exactly how that system behaves after years of valley heat, seasonal use, and Santa Ana debris. We’re not affiliated with or authorized by DuraFlex, and we’ll tell you that straight. What we are is the crew in Reseda that’s pulled enough of these liners out to know where they fail first, what cleans off, and what needs a real fix. If your DuraFlex system is acting up, call us at (866) 562-0968.

What makes our DuraFlex work different is the depth of what we check. Most sweeps will run a brush through and call it done. We’re looking at the liner itself – the alloy, the condition of the lock-tab bands, whether the insulation blanket at the offset is still intact, and what the bottom 18 inches looks like where condensate quietly eats through stainless. That’s the difference between a chimney that looks clean and one that’s actually safe to burn.

Why Trust Chimney Sweep Reseda for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

DuraFlex liners are engineered systems, not just flexible tubes. The SS line uses 304 or 316 stainless depending on the application. The Pro series adds an insulation blanket. The UltraFlex smooth-wall liner changes how draft behaves entirely. If you don’t know which one you have, you can’t clean it correctly or spot early problems. Our technicians in Reseda know the difference by looking at the top termination and the first few feet of liner in the flue, and we also handle DuraFlex in Winnetka.

Owner Harold Peralta grew up a few blocks from Reseda Park and has spent well over a decade working chimneys across the West Valley. He learned the combustion and building-systems fundamentals at Los Angeles Pierce College, but the specifics of flue drafting, creosote stages, and liner corrosion came from field work. The kind you can’t get in a classroom. When we’re on a DuraFlex job, Harold’s the one checking the joints and reading the soot. His approach is simple: diagnose, show you what we found, and explain the fix before any work is done. If we can show you what’s in there, you’ll understand why we’re fixing it.

We stock genuine DuraFlex liner sections, lock-tab bands, and top plates for exact-fit repairs. We also keep quality aftermarket caps and adapters on hand for cases where the original hardware was never great to begin with. That’s not corner-cutting. That’s knowing when an aftermarket cap seals better than the one that came with the original install. We’ll tell you which one applies to your flue.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Reseda

  • Pinhole corrosion in the bottom 18 inches of the inner flue. This is the most common DuraFlex failure we see in Reseda homes with gas logs or high-moisture wood burning. Condensate pools at the lowest point of the liner – usually right where it meets the appliance connector – and sits there. On 304-alloy liners, that corrosive mix eats through faster than most owners would believe. You might notice a faint exhaust smell on cold mornings even when the fire’s off.
  • Separated lock-tab bands between liner sections. Each section of a DuraFlex liner locks into the next with a crimped band. If the liner was pulled too hard during install, or if it’s shifted during repeated heating and cooling cycles, those bands can separate. Creosote then bypasses the joint and leaks into the chase cavity around the liner. A standard sweep won’t catch this. A camera inspection will.
  • Crushed or torn insulation blanket at offsets and elbows. DuraFlex Pro liners wrap an insulation blanket around the inner flue. When the liner passes through a tight smoke chamber or an angled offset, the blanket can snag and tear. We see this in Reseda’s post-war ranch homes where the original masonry flues weren’t built straight. The result is uneven draft and a cold spot in the flue that accumulates creosote faster.
  • Sagging top termination where the DuraFlex cap adapter meets the liner. The cap adapter at the top of the flue is the first thing exposed to sun, rain, and wind. In Reseda’s summers, the flashing and crown take a beating. When the adapter sags or shifts, you’ll see rust streaks on the crown or the flashing. That gap lets water and debris in, and it’s often the reason an otherwise fine liner starts corroding from the top.
  • Rusted damper plates that bind against the liner end. In older Reseda homes, the original cast-iron damper often remains in place even after a DuraFlex liner install. The liner passes through it, but the damper frame rusts and the plate no longer moves freely. It binds, it whistles, or it blocks access for cleaning. Removing the damper frame entirely is sometimes the only real fix, and we’ll show you why.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

Every repair decision starts with the question: is this section of liner still doing its job? If a lock-tab band has separated but the liner sections themselves are sound, we re-band and move on. No reason to sell you a full reline. If the bottom 16 inches are pitted through on a 304 liner serving gas logs, we replace that section. Sometimes we’ll recommend stepping up to a 316-alloy kit for the replacement because it handles the condensate better. That’s material matching, not upselling.

For caps and adapters, we’re honest about what works. Some original DuraFlex top plates are thin and rust-prone. We stock aftermarket caps from Gelco and Famco that seal better and last longer. Same holds for replacement bands and top plates – if a quality aftermarket part is the better call, we’ll tell you and show you why. The point is a sealed, safe system, not brand loyalty for its own sake. Call (866) 562-0968 and we’ll give you a straight read on what your DuraFlex system actually needs.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Level 2 camera inspection first. Before any brush touches the liner, we run a camera through the entire flue length. We’re looking for joint separation, corrosion patches, blanket damage, and the exact condition of the bottom section. You see the footage. We walk you through it on the spot.
  2. 2
Creosote removal matched to the liner condition. If the liner is structurally sound, we sweep with poly brushes sized to your exact DuraFlex diameter – not steel, which can score the stainless. For hardened third-degree creosote, we use chemical treatments or rotary removal depending on what the liner can take. If the liner shows damage, we fix that before we sweep.
  3. 3
Repair or section replacement with the correct parts. If we find a failed band, a pitted section, or a damaged top termination, we quote the fix before any work begins. We stock genuine DuraFlex liner sections and bands locally for fast turnaround, and we add aftermarket parts only where they outperform the original.
  4. 4
Testing and re-inspection. After any repair, we run the camera again and confirm draft with a smoke test. You see the result before we pack up. The goal is a liner that’s clean, fully joined, and sealed at both ends.
  5. 5
Warranty-safe documentation. We document what we found, what we did, and what parts went in. That record is yours. If your DuraFlex warranty is still active, you can provide it to the manufacturer with clear repair documentation.
